How to get an Inner Line Permit (ILP) online for Arunachal Pradesh?

If you are planning a trip to the beautiful and mystic land of Arunachal Pradesh, the first thing on your to-do list should be to get the ILP. The below process is to get the ILP online, though the manual process of obtaining it from the DC offices still exists.

What is an ILP?

Before we look at the process, let us first understand what is an ILP.
The concept of ILP originates in the British era where the rulers restricted people’s entry to certain protected areas.
Without going into the specifics, ILP is a document issued by a concerned state government to allow the travel of an Indian citizen to a protected area for a specific period. As of now, an ILP is required to visit Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur and Lakshadweep. The requirement for an ILP to visit Leh has been abolished.

Process for getting an ILP online:

Before we start the process, make sure that you have booked your hotel in advance or have a local reference whom you can mention on the application.

  1. Select Processing Office: Select the location closest to you i.e., if you are applying from Delhi then select CRC Delhi.

In our experience, this did not matter but the above is the official advice.

  1. Select Districts: Select as appropriate. We visited the Tawang district so we selected that from the drop-down list.
  2. Select gates: As soon as you select the districts, this field will be auto-populated. Gates are the check posts from where you will enter the state. For example, if you are visiting Tawang, your gates will be Bhalukpong / Balemu.
  3. Purpose of visit: State the purpose here.
  4. Date of Visit: The date when you will enter the state.
  5. Date of return: The date of exit from the state. A single ILP can be issued for a maximum of 30 days at once and you will have to get it extended after that.
  6. Select Permit Category: Select from the drop-down list.
  7. Local reference details: Give the hotel address and contact number if you are a tourist, else any other local reference.

Personal details and address:

Fill in the required information for the primary applicant. The fields are self-explanatory so not going into it in detail.

Step 5:

You can preview the application and check for its accuracy before submitting it. Once your application is approved, you will receive a payment link on your email ID. The fee for eILP is Rs.100 per person.
You can check the status of your application and print your eILP by clicking on the “Check Status and reprint eILP” link on the home page.

The entire process should take a couple of days from your application to the issue of eILP. You will get an email ID to contact the officials but we did not get any response from that. So be patient and unless there is some technical issue with the application, you should get the ILP.

Hope the process mentioned above was easy to understand and if there is still any query then do leave a comment and we will be happy to help you out.

We ourselves used the online permit during our visit to Arunachal last year and did not face any issue at the check post. It is a document issued by the govt authorities and should be accepted. Hope you had filled the details correctly especially the “district” and the “gates” field.
